stampede at the Water Festival in Phnom Penh

I just heard about the stampede at the Water Festival in Phnom Penh - 339 people killed, so terribly sad. We're ok, obviously, but it's really a tragedy. That's a lot of people killed. I can imagine how it happened, the crowds were so intense, people sitting on the ground in big groups, small children everywhere, people who might still be easily skittish even this long after the amokness of Pol Pot. So so sad.

  1. Oh this is terrible news.. The Guardian website says at least 240 of the dead are women and that the death toll will rise because 320 badly injured and Calmette hospital cannot cope. It's described as the worst loss of life since the Kymer Rouge killings in the 1970s. Thursday will be a national day of mourning.
I'm sure you know all this anyway. I'm glad you're ok but wonder what effect this will have on your holiday spirit and the rest of your stay. Take care of yourselves.
I'll be posting later today and then off for a couple of days as I'm having surgery and won't have my Notebook:( When did I get so reliant on it?
